Strategy indie “Necrosmith” reveals July console release date and plush

Necrosmith, Alawar Premium’s indie strategy sim about using the undead to escape a strange world, will officially be ported to the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 5 on July 6th, 2023.

A limited edition plush of the game’s adorable cat companion, courtesy of Makeship, was also revealed today. Fans who order the plush will additionally receive a digital copy of Wall World, the vertical roguelite hit that Alawar Premium launched last April.

In Necrosmith, players are a necromancer who strategically assembles the undead with different body parts, using their hordes to explore unique biomes and seeking a way to escape their world.

Necrosmith originally launched last year and is available now on PC. You can watch today’s console announcement trailer on publisher Merge Games’ YouTube channel:

Necrosmith has an incredible cute factor, both in its characters and world. But it wields this art design to create contrast with the grim elements of the story, which results in a natural sense of humor.

Well, blending two dissimilar things to craft something fun couldn’t be more fitting. Necrosmith’s clever premise permeates all of its familiar mechanics with a fresh theme. As you discover new combinations of body parts, the friendly dark comedy of your mismatched results will probably be worth a goofy laugh for most.

The gameplay loop is streamlined, which may disappoint some. But its casual tone is accessible, and it should be a good fit for the Nintendo Switch.

Necrosmith probably doesn’t seem quite as innovative or expansive as Wall World. But it’s still highly entertaining, thematic, and it thrives on its weirdness. The world is really worth exploring.

Wall World also launched just a year after Necrosmith, showing a lot of growth from the devs. This will encourage fans to keep an eye on Necrosmith 2, which you can wishlist on Steam now.
