“Lost Adventures” launches tabletop Kickstarter campaign

Lost Adventures, a board game inspired by classic archaeology adventure movies from Belltower Games, has officially arrived on Kickstarter with a new campaign this week.

In Lost Adventures, 2-4 players are movie adventurers who must seek out a temple during the map phase, and then survive a perilous treasure hunt during the temple phase.

Estimated deliveries for physical copies of Lost Adventures are currently listed as November 2023. Designed by Jeff Warrender and Steve Sisk, here’s the big announcement from yesterday, when the Kickstarter campaign began:

You can watch a trailer for the game, which includes a brief rundown of the rules, on Jeff Warrender’s official YouTube channel:

Lost Adventures has arrived on Kickstarter just in time for the new Indiana Jones film, and it has some twists for translating many related, cinematic tropes into a tabletop experience.

The meta premise is pretty clever, as players are literally movie characters trying to earn their place out of the editing room. But this still captures the spirit of competition, danger, and globetrotting of Lost Adventures’ influences.

While its theme will certainly spark interest, the gameplay itself promises to keep players engaged. The phases and actions seem very tidy, understandable and highly thematic.

Things are kept relatively simple, wisely making Lost Adventures family friendly. But it’s very clear that a lot of thought went into balancing the pace of this game. There are some neat layers, and there’s enough flexibility to avoid potential lulls. For example, all of the Character cards have value, and players can risk using “hubris” to give themselves a nudge ahead.

The art design isn’t especially detailed or surprising. But it is streamlined, and the obligatory tattered look is very charming. The components themselves appear to have some fine quality, and the meeples that resemble Indiana Jones are positively adorable.
