Radhood releases free demos for Synth Beasts and Soul Stalker

Radhood has officially released a playable demo for two of their upcoming indies on PC via Steam. These include Synth Beasts, an action and adventure RPG, and Soul Stalker, a roguelike bullet hell.

You may know Radhood as an elaboration from Conradical Games, the indie studio behind The Outbound Ghost, which ultimately became embroiled in a series of legal disputes with the publisher.

Both Synth Beasts and Soul Stalker will be published in-house by Radhood Publishing, but they don’t have a release date yet.

In Synth Beasts, players catch monsters and use their abilities to explore islands, in search of a mysterious lab. In Soul Stalker, players must rescue their town by banishing ghosts in a series of bullet hell stages.

Here’s the demo announcement from the Conradical Games Twitter feed, which includes links for each game:

Following The Outbound Ghost, the sheer breadth of development seems staggering, which makes the quality of today’s featured games so impressive.

Synth Beasts and Soul Stalker are both simple twists on very popular games. But they each have a distinguishable vision with creative worlds and ideas, from the character design to the music.

Soul Stalker teases more scope and freedom than expected, both in its content and mechanics. The charming, silly tone and supernatural action are also a great fit for the Paper Mario-inspired visuals. It’s important to note how beloved that title is, and that only truly thoughtful worlds could genuinely benefit from such influence.

It’s unfortunate that Synth Beasts is almost certain to draw comparisons to Cassette Beasts, which has admittedly earned its enormous praise. But Synth Beasts has a streamlined pace, a lax tone, and environments that don’t rely so much on retro tradition.

These are both compelling indies with polished graphics and mechanics. Hopefully, today’s demos invite even more loyal fans.
