Greyhill Incident, an upcoming survival horror indie about an alien invasion from developer and publisher Refugium Games, will officially launch on consoles on June 13th, 2023. It will be available on PlayStation and Xbox.
The PC version on Steam will release later this week on June 9th, 2023. Because the console ports were slightly delayed, the devs started a giveaway of five PlayStation keys on their Twitter feed.
In Greyhill Incident, players explore a small 90’s neighborhood to discover the truth and rescue a neighbor, while surviving an invasion of classic grey aliens. You can watch today’s new console release date trailer on the Refugium Games YouTube channel:
Greyhill Incident seems to harken back to the The X-Files’ moody 90’s counterculture and conspiracies, as well as the small-town suspense and relationships in Signs (both of which I personally adore).
The latest trailer reinforces those themes by taking itself more seriously, and although it leaves little room for mystery, it should win over most sci-fi fans. Especially those of us that grew up in the 90’s.
The devs have smartly incorporated the obvious design of their alien threat by leaning into a sense of authenticity. The look, crafts, and methods are all pure enough to create a genuinely tense environment.
It reassures that this game aims for legitimate survival tension, perhaps akin to The Alterity Experience, a Spielbergian homage that we previously reviewed.
The recognizable, striking visuals and shadowy world in Greyhill Incident are far more effective than the performances in today’s trailer. The voice acting may or may not be intentionally cheesy.
Otherwise, the gameplay itself looks very promising, with an impressive balance of nuance and spectacle events, which should create a real sense of urgency. There’s also a great eye for lighting, and the soundtrack is unexpectedly patient. This is a game that will absolutely benefit from a next-gen console experience.
