“The Way Home – A Typing Adventure” has launched on Steam

The Way Home – A Typing Adventure, a debut indie typing and puzzle adventure from developer and publisher Oroi Game Studios, has officially launched on Steam today.

In The Way Home – A Typing Adventure, players must use their typing skills to lead Emily through a fantasy world, outwitting obstacles and monsters on a journey home.

There are no immediately apparent trailers for the game on YouTube. But you can watch a brief gameplay trailer on the official Steam page. Here’s the new launch announcement from Oroi Game Studios’ Twitter feed:

The tweet’s first sentence is perhaps one of the more amusing typos in recent memory, not only for its contradiction, but also the nature of the game. But the devs promptly admitted their mistake in stride, and it should hardly affect the game itself.

Moving on from the minor mishap, The Way Home – A Typing Adventure has some incredibly cute characters, each of whom have a distinct personality.

In fact, the protagonist herself does not resemble any of the enemies. While this does seem a little inconsistent at first glance, it literally emphasizes the premise that she’s a fish out of water. Meanwhile, all of the enemies have a retro feel, which lines up with the pixel art and the charming soundtrack.

However, the environments can feel rather empty or redundant. This is a shame, since that’s really what would convince players to continue exploring. Fortunately, all of the movement animation and effects look relatively smooth.

Between the low price tag and fun little details like collectible runes, this simple and small typing debut could be worth a glance. But it feels evident that The Way Home – A Typing Adventure is someone’s first game. Still, it does have a spark of imagination, and it’d be neat to see where the developers could go with a budget.
