Roguelike FPS “Death Elevator” announced with full gameplay trailer

Death Elevator, an FPS roguelike with one-hit deaths and slow-mo action from developer Fernando Tittz, has just revealed an official announcement trailer with a gameplay overview.

In Death Elevator, players must survive a series of levels by killing enemies and dodging dangerous slow-time events, in order to ride their elevator to its final floor and solve the mystery of their battle.

Naturally, it’s too early to consider a release window. The supported platforms are not confirmed, but the devs have already released previous titles on Steam, so it’s likely to be available on PC via Steam too.

Like Death Elevator itself, today’s new gameplay trailer feels like a breezy burst of adrenaline. The contrast between the elevator music and the bloody action sequences creates an upbeat and amusing tone, and the editing efficiently breaks everything down.

Death Elevator has fully committed to minimalist visuals and mechanics, an approach which is even reflected in its title. This consistency smartly owns the casual lane that Death Elevator has chosen, and will make it easier to forgive anything that may result from budgetary constraints.

However, even though the environments and enemies have very few details, the actual gunplay looks satisfying. The weapons boast sound effects that pack a real punch, and they notably have more visual detail than any other object, effectively emphasizing them and your action scenes.

Not to mention that you’ll have the opportunity to shoot enemy bullets right out of the air, which should be tremendous fun.

Death Elevator feels so tidy and certain of itself, and it’d be a lot of fun to see this in the VR space, too. Simply put, there is an arcade purity to Death Elevator that is likely to please pretty much anyone brave enough for roguelike challenges.
