Roguelike dice-builder “Tamarak Trail” reveals new console trailer

Tamarak Trail, an upcoming roguelike deck-builder that uses customizable dice for combat instead of cards, has just released an official console trailer.

The new trailer reveals that Tamarak Trail will be available on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox. Xbox likely refers to last-gen consoles, as the Series X|S is not specified, and the PS5 isn’t mentioned.

In Tamarak Trail, players must explore and rescue a randomly generated trail from evil forces, using unique character classes and powerful dice combos.

Developed by Yarrow Games and published by Versus Evil, Tamarak Trail doesn’t have a concrete release date yet, but it’s expected to launch this year. Aside from consoles, it will be available on PC, and you can wishlist the game on Steam now. You can watch the new console trailer for Tamarak Trail on the Versus Evil YouTube channel:

To begin with, Tamarak Trail boasts a simple yet novel premise, which is absolutely certain to hook you. Substituting dice for a deck-builder feels like an obvious course the genre should already be oversaturated with, which is a good sign.

The dice mechanic also takes perfect advantage of the medium. More so than most comparable titles, which would sometimes be better served in a tabletop experience.

Although the visuals in Tamarak Trail occasionally wear their budget on their sleeve, the art design has a compelling nature theme that feels consistent throughout the gameplay loop. And it truly peaks with the central dice designs.

Every potential facet is absolutely gorgeous, with imaginative representations of a wide variety of animals and critters. Fans will undoubtedly wish for real sets of these dice, which can actually look superior to Tamarak Trail’s environments or characters.

There’s a better sense of variety and progression in Tamarak Trail than other deck-builders. It should be a very comfy playthrough, with enough distinguishable features to succeed.
