Horror puzzle indie “Unholy” announces public demo for June

Unholy, an upcoming horror and action puzzle game from developer Duality Games and publisher HOOK, just revealed a public demo is coming in June.

Players will have access to central features, including both exploration and key puzzles. The demo will be available on Steam, where you can also wishlist the game today.

In Unholy, players travel between parallel worlds to solve the mystery of their missing child. Gameplay will feature a grab-bag of mechanics, from stealth and puzzles to mask-based powers and shooting.

Unholy released the first sixteen minutes of gameplay footage in an IGN exclusive. But it was quite the journey, as the first game teaser was revealed as far back as 2018. It was another four years before HOOK partnered for this indie, and the devs still deserve your support.

The developers, based in Warsaw, have achieved some remarkable graphics for Unholy. Everything from the broadest skybox to the smallest detail are well-defined and tangible. Yet, however impressive the graphics are, this doesn’t seem to be for the sake of quality alone.

Unholy has a sprawling strangeness that creates a perpetual, seeping dread in its opening minutes. It very much feels as if this boldness simply demanded more powerful visuals, and the devs subsequently rose to that occasion.

Unholy also revels in letting the story unfold unnaturally, but it is coherent and includes convincing performances. It’s absolutely crucial that the mythology promises to live up to the mystery box, which can be very challenging.

Overall, Unholy seems destined to become an outright classic, boasting the qualities and attitude of a cult classic. It may be easy to heap praise on something that has already gained so much, but it is also deserved. As a horror fan, I’m delighted to further spread the word for this one.
