Digital TTRPG “Fablecraft” fully funded on Kickstarter day one

Fablecraft, an upcoming cooperative digital RPG from Riftweaver, has officially launched on Kickstarter today and is already fully funded. In Fablecraft, players share adventures in the world of Mythas, represented by original artwork, music, and interactive battle maps for strategic combat.

Although a launch date hasn’t been confirmed, general release is expected in Q2 2024. At that time, it will be free to play on PC and mobile devices.

For now, backing the Kickstarter will give players access to the Closed Beta on PC in August 2023. Here’s the Kickstarter announcement from Fablecraft’s Twitter feed:

Although Fablecraft is fully digital, it seems more intent on streamlining the traditional RPG tabletop experience than merging with the video game market. Here’s the Kickstarter gameplay trailer for review:

The battle maps do help visualize things in a way that RPGs are rarely afforded. In fact, the general combination of imagery and audio effects are certain to make the entire genre feel more accessible.

Companion apps have been a point of contention among tabletop fans, but Fablecraft’s decision to fully commit is intriguing. Again, the presentation seems built for friendliness. Instead of discarding all of the familiar components, Fablecraft simply digitizes them.

The table will be cleaner, and casual newcomers are less likely to feel awkward. Those who don’t mind companion apps should also appreciate how much management Fablecraft trims off, including battle calculations and character progression.

However, players will lose that signature, tactile appeal of miniatures and dice rolls, as well as the freedom of imagination.

Still, Fablecraft’s approach is forthright and ambitious. Players will be able to craft their own stories, and the devs even have plans for an integrated marketplace that will allow creators to sell through the platform directly.

With free remote play, and player creativity, Fablecraft looks like a major opportunity to build a large and special community. Be sure to support the project on its Kickstarter page.
