Inn Keeper, an upcoming medieval fantasy sim management game from developer and publisher Venalith, can now be wishlisted on the Epic Games Store today. Here’s the new announcement from the developer’s Twitter feed:
Inn Keeper features a unique first-person perspective, semi-open world, character customization, and even the opportunity to play music for your customers.
A release date has not been confirmed for Inn Keeper, though it is expected to launch into Early Access sometime this year, according to a tweet from last February:
There are more than a few high fantasy tavern simulators, and Inn Keeper is sure to call Epic Tavern or Tavern Master to mind. However, the visuals are quite distinguishable.
The first-person gameplay is surely a neat hook, and alongside the character customization, Inn Keeper borrows from the RPG genre a bit more than some predecessors.
Also, the low poly art design is charming and adds an interesting, surreal touch. It does sort of compromise the immersion that the first-person experience was meant to build. But it should also make the world flexible enough for the intended volume of smaller details, and keep them friendly.
After all, Inn Keeper appears to be emphasizing the minutiae of its world, aiming to give players extensive freedoms. Besides first-person, this is surely the game’s greatest intrigue. On the game’s new Epic Games Store page, the devs mention that they even aimed for a realistic cooking system.
If such things can be achieved remains to be seen, because the game is promising a wide variety of challenging mechanics to nail. But it’s absolutely certain that these developers are highly ambitious, which should benefit a tired genre.
The fundamental ideas for Inn Keeper have potential. Hopefully, it can live up to the expansive mechanics in store. Venalith frequently shares different stages of development, so it’ll be fun to see more footage continue to come together.
