Sci-Fi FPS “Moon Mystery” Kickstarter is live with new trailer

Moon Mystery, an upcoming first-person shooter adventure from developer Cosmoscouts and publisher Freedom Games, has just launched a Kickstarter campaign with a fresh gameplay trailer.

In Moon Mystery, players embark on an epic adventure to solve the mystery of a failed space mission. It’s expected to launch on PC, and curious sci-fi fans can wishlist the game on Steam now. However, the ultimate stretch goal of the new Kickstarter also aims for Moon Mystery to be ported to the Xbox and PlayStation.

You can watch the brand-new gameplay trailer on the official Moon Mystery YouTube channel:

Moon Mystery is undoubtedly one of the most ambitious debut games for a studio that I’ve seen in some time, in regards to both its stunning visuals and narrative scale.

The game boasts a surprising variety of vehicles and environments, all of which capture a very clear majesty of space and immersive personality. These elements will surely delight both science and science-fiction fans.

By contrast, it’s almost a little odd that the central gameplay involves shootouts. That being said, the secret history premise, tragedy, and brooding mystery are all common space tropes turned on their heads by such an approach. And the shooting itself does seem promising, with careful attention to environmental effects.

In fact, Moon Mystery appears to be some intentional amalgamation of countless sci-fi blockbusters, many of which are directly referenced in the Kickstarter reward tiers.

Movies like The Martian have really helped make space travel and exploration more accessible for casual audiences, and it’s always fun to see how they influence other creatives. It is very clear from today’s trailer that Moon Mystery is highly cinematic, and probably most resembles No Man’s Sky

Frankly, Moon Mystery is nearly indistinguishable from a AAA title. Hopefully, the story will have as much heart and sincerity as the developers clearly do. As a lifelong fan of science, sci-fi, and action, I am deeply impressed and plan to keep a close watch on Cosmoscouts.
